What to ask in a trial lesson
Twenty-five minutes is short. A little preparation turns it from a friendly chat into a real decision.
Bring something concrete
A specific problem, essay, or topic you’re stuck on is the single most useful thing you can bring. Watching a tutor work through your actual material tells you more than any description of their approach.
Worth asking
- Have you taught this exact course or exam before?
- How would you structure the first few lessons?
- What would you want me to do between lessons?
- How much notice do you need to reschedule?
Notice how it feels
Did they explain things in a way that made sense to you? Did you feel comfortable saying “I don’t understand”? That matters more than credentials.
